a живой; жив (тк. предикативно) (1). Русское атрибутивное живой соответствует английскому living, если речь идет о людях, и live, если речь идет о животных:He doesn't have any living relatives — Никого из его родственников нет в живых.
It is difficult to transport live animals — Живых зверей трудно перевозить.
(2). Прилагательное alive стоит после определяемого существительного, если ему предшествуют прилагательное в превосходной степени или слова first, any, every, no, only:No man alive — Никто на свете;
any man alive — кто угодно.
He is the only person alive who knows about it — Он единственный человек в живых, кто об этом знает.
